It’s amazing how some people can watch the exact same video and “see” different things. You have probably noticed this in the most recent Presidential Election in the U.S. People would watch the same debate and come away with totally different takes on how it went. “My person is awesome. The other person is despicable!” I saw this first hand recently when drone footage was posted of construction going on in the Coshocton community. The footage shows some of the changes and work being done on the Three Rivers Bridge. It’s a big project that will take quite some time to complete. Most of the reaction was pretty positive. People fell into the camp of seeing the footage as a cool look at progress being made. The video was shared (at this point) 74 times with thousands of views. But the other group (albeit a small group) was not as rosy about the project. They saw this video and pointed out the amount of money being spent on the project. They pointed out that traffic was being challenged in both directions. They even took the time to challenge the assumptions of all decisions made in the community (current and past). As I said, it’s amazing to me that people can watch the same video and “see” two different things. When I look at the video I see “progress.” Progress is messy and it takes time. Progress is hard work and it takes sacrifice. The best progress isn’t easy. It takes planning and hard work and perseverance. But that’s what I see. The point is, what you see often has a lot to do with what you “want” to see. I choose to see things through a positive lense. To a degree, that’s my nature. But the reality is, it’s much more of an active choice. I work every morning to put myself in a positive frame of mind. I do it on purpose. I don’t do this because I want to see the world through rose colored glasses. I do it because I don’t like the alternative. Like most things in life, construction is going to happen. I can see it as wasteful or I can see it as progress. It doesn’t affect the project. That’s going to happen anyway. It just affects how my mind reacts to it. So I choose to be happy. There is nothing better than getting the chance to spend time with smart, kind people. It’s always a treat. And when Mark and Catherine Graham came to town, you know you will get exactly that. They took the time to teach us a lot. You can read more about the visit here. In addition, they were also gracious enough to let us capture a video conversation between the Grahams and the Hassemans. I felt like it would be a real wasted opportunity if we did not! So though we had a couple of questions prepared for each other, it was a pretty organic conversation. We set up some lights, a couple of cameras (and then made Emily record)…and just went where the conversation took us. We talked about entrepreneurship, marketing, family…and so much more. So here is our conversation with Mark and Catherine Graham.

Every year for over 10 years, Hasseman Marketing has created an “End User” show and have invited our customers. It’s evolved and grown over the years and we are quite proud of it. It started as a “Customer Appreciation Show” and it still has those elements. But we have expanded it and now call it our annual Trade Show (you can register here). This year the theme is “The Great Outdoors.” Why? Because it’s a Trade Show build for our customers and prospects. But why should you come? We want this event to be fun AND add a ton of value. Here are a few reasons why we think you should attend. 1. Great Product Access: We invite some of our top (and favorite) supplier reps to showcase their lines at the show. I like to say “There is no way I could fit all of this in my trunk.” You get to see and touch and feel the product and see what it’s really like. We all know that many products look the same online or in a catalog. But when you get them up close you can really see a difference. This is the perfect place to make sure your brand materials are on point. 2. Idea Generation: As you walk around and see the latest and greatest in Promo, you will come up with some great ideas for upcoming projects. The reality is, the show is at a great time of year for year end gifts for your team or customers. But some of our best customers come every year and start to plan their marketing for the next year and beyond. 3. Great SWAG: Nobody leaves empty handed! We put on a fun event where (with the help of our suppliers) we invest in putting some really cool SWAG in your hands. In addition, we build the event around a theme so you can see how we use a bunch of different items around a theme! 4. Tasty Food: You have to eat right? We have food and drinks as well. Each year we get compliments about the tasty treats and we know this year will be no different. The event this year is on Thursday October 11 from Noon to 5pm at the Lake Park Pavilion (in Coshocton). Our goal is to create an event that provides value and fun…and you never want to miss. It seems like everywhere I look I see people and organizations that want full-time results with part-time effort. They are looking for the magic button, the pill or the process that will magically turn a week of effort into a lifetime of achievement. Life doesn’t work that way. And to quote the Princess Bride “anyone who tells you differently is selling something.” Whether you want to improve your fitness, create a sales organization or build an audience, the rules are the same. You need to put in the work that no one seems to notice, for a long time, to become an overnight success. You have to put in full-time work. Every day. If you aren’t willing to do that, you have to question whether you really want to achieve the goal (whatever that is) in the first place.
